Small and incongruous on the decks of powerful Imperial war machines, mouse droids are ever-present annoyances buzzing back and forth between tasks. They are small, boxy wheeled droids that provide courier and minor maintenance duties aboard Star Destroyers and the Death Stars.

Astromech droids are a series of versatile utility robots generally used for the maintenance and repair of starships and related technology. 2-1B (or Too-Onebee) is a medical and surgeon droid that was stationed with the core group of Rebel Alliance soldiers on Hoth's Echo Base. This humanoid mechanical aided Luke Skywalker twice during the events surrounding the Battle of Hoth. He revived Luke from a state of dormo-shock after the young commander suffered exposure to the Hoth elements. After Luke's confrontation with Darth Vader on Bespin, 2-1B affixed Luke with a cybernetic hand. 2-1B was assisted by an FX-7 droid. 2-1B is a humanoid droid with a skull like head, a transparent trunk, and numerous surgical appendages.

Ambulatory batteries, power droids are among the least sophisticated and most commonly encountered droids in the galaxy. The boxy robot is essentially a walking battery, moving about on two thick, accordion-like legs. Power droids provide energy to other droids, machinery, vehicles and starships. They are found in military installations, such as the Death Star and Rebel Alliance hangar bays, as well as civilian outposts like the moisture farms on Tatooine.

A resourceful, spunky and adventurous astromech droid, R2-D2 has saved the day time and again. His little .96-meter tall frame is packed with all sorts of tool-tipped appendages that make him a great starship mechanic and computer interface specialist. It's his bravery, however, that has made him an invaluable asset to his owners and friends. |

IG-88

Much of the anti-droid sentiment existing in the galaxy is unwarranted bigotry, but even pro-droid activists will find it hard to defend the rights of droids bearing arms. The memory of droid armies is still fresh in many minds, and the legions of mechanized troops used by the Trade Federation and other corporate interests paved the way for legislation that eventually did away with the soulless infantry.
Relics from that era still exist, such as the battered chrome war droid known as IG-88. The tall, cylinder-headed and heavily-armed mechanical bounty hunter responded to Darth Vader's call to capture the Millennium Falcon during the events surrounding the Battle of Hoth.
